Conference on the Rights of Victims of Terrorism in Denmark

08/01/2024

On January 18, 2024, V-Europe had the honor of speaking at a seminar on the rights of victims of terrorism in Copenhagen, Denmark. This event was organized by the Finn Nørgaard Foundation and marked an important step in the preparation for new legislation aimed at supporting victims of terrorism, set to be introduced in Denmark in 2024.

To support this legislative initiative, the Finn Nørgaard Foundation hosted the seminar, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders from various sectors both within Denmark and beyond. Participants included politicians, emergency response personnel, professional caregivers, and survivors of terrorist attacks, who collaboratively discussed the needs of terrorism victims and developed new insights.

The experiences shared by these professionals will play a crucial role in implementing practical measures to address these needs. The outcomes of the seminar will be conveyed to relevant parliamentary committees.

During a panel discussion, four Danish survivors shared their stories, articulating their experiences and needs during and after the attacks. Another discussion focused on the political perspective, highlighting priority areas for future policy development.

V-Europe contributed to the seminar by sharing its extensive practical experience, accumulated through years of supporting victims of terrorism and fostering trust-based relationships. The core message from V-Europe emphasized the importance of translating theory into practice and the necessity for professional organizations to focus on the practical implementation of the rights and needs of victims, ensuring that the victims remain at the center of all efforts.
